Lee Crompton was born in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire in 1973 but has lived on the South Coast of England for the majority of his life. His Nan was responsible for his writing debut in 1981 when she asked the bored eight year old to finish off a Christmas story partially written by his cousin David. During his time at Junior School, Lee often won the weekly story writing competition requiring him to read his work in front of the class. Whilst others wrote a couple of pages, he filled exercise books. Itâ¿¿s debatable if his work really was a cut above the rest or whether it purely saved the teacher planning any lessons for an afternoon each week. On the one occasion Lee failed to win, the supply teacher, Miss Symes, cited she required quality rather than quantity.
In his mid-teens, Lee worked packing frozen poultry for Chinese restaurants, moulded sausage meat around scotch eggs in a local factory and wrote depressing poetry. He left school in 1992 and worked as a quantity surveyor whilst studying part-time for his degree. In 1997 he became a Bachelor of Science and took up a full-time position as a surveyor in Salisbury working on various projects throughout the South of England.
Lee quit his job in 2003 to go travelling around the world. Starting in India, he journeyed through Asia, Australasia and the United States before eventually returning to the UK in 2004. Whilst in Wellington Lee was involved in the writing and production of a short film for the New Zealand 48-hour film festival. His travels also inspired this, his second novel, Worlds Apart.
Lee now lives in Scotland. In complete contrast to his work to date, he is currently working on a thriller called Digging Deeper and a screenplay entitled When North Becomes South.
