Birthday Present
"Finally, I can go to sleep'¦" - she said turning off the TV. "This was a great movie! Tomorrow we'll go to Grace, because it's her birthday. I can hardly wait to see her'¦ At 12 o'clock Grace will be 19. Man, time runs faster then ever before! I don't know why, but I have a strange feeling'¦'
'Yes, well, it's because of that creepy movie. Go in your room; it's late already'¦'
'I'm goin'. Good night, Mom!' 'and she was heading upstairs, to her room. "What a scary movie! I hope I won't dream anything stupid'¦'
The door was closing, and there was no more light in the room. Outside was raining, it was dark and scary. The wind blew everything out from its way; the tree's shadows appeared on Becky's bedroom's wall, and they looked like phantoms, dancing. Seeing this dance, Becky pulled the blanket over her face, and couple of minutes later, she was already sleeping.
The phone was ringing. Becky opened her eyes and went downstairs, to the living-room, 'cause that's where the phone was, bumbling something about why isn't there a phone also in her room and why is there calling someone so late'¦
She answered the phone.
'One, two, Freddy's coming for you. Three, four, better lock your door. Five, six, grab your crucifix. Seven, Eight, gonna stay up late. Nine, Ten, never sleep again.'
'Ha-ha, very funny, Tania, now won't you please let me go to bed?'
Someone was knocking at the door. At this moment she dropped the phone and it didn't seem so funny to her anymore'¦
'I knew something will happen! It's 12 o'clock already? I'm definitely dreaming. Am I?
The knocking wasn't stopping.
'There's someone at the door'¦ mooom!'
But there was no answer. She went slowly to the door.
'Who is there? This isn't funny no more, you know?!'
She opened the door'¦ There was no one outside'¦ When she shut the door, she could hear the knocks again.
'Who are you?'
'I'm your worst nightmare! One, two, Freddy is at you. Three, four, shut the door'¦'
'I will sure do that!!! Oh my God!!!'
So she was in front of the closed door, and the key was already I her hand, but heading to the door, she tripped and dropped the key down. She stood up, grabbed the key, but the door was already opening slowly '¦
'Where should I run?'
'You can run, but you can't hide' 'said the voice behind the door'¦
'Who the damn are you?'
'I'm Freddy, don't you remember me?' and the door slammed the wall and there he was'¦ there was'¦ Freddy.
She ran upstairs'¦ all the things were floating in the air. Now she ran to her mother's room. On the bed there was only a doll. A strange, but familiar one. Its eyes were shut, but it started to open it.
'Hi, honey' ' and he took a knife out of his pocket. Are you ready to die? -he asked jumping down from the bed.
'Am I?! HELP! 'she started to run to the bathroom. She looked in the mirror and she saw a monster lying in blood, in her tub.
'Aaaaaaaaaaaaaw!'
Next stop: her room. She went near the window and she looked outside'¦ in the forest she could see'¦
'The cavalry without head!? What is this, the gathering of the monsters? But why in my house?! Where are you mom?' and she ran downstairs, where everything started.
She knew someone was nearby, but she couldn't see nobody, and nothing. The door was shut. She stood there motionless, and a hand touched her arm! She knew that it's her end.
But a familiar voice responded; the voice of her friend, Grace.
'I'm sooo happy to see you!!! Let's go! Hurry, trough the back door!'
'Now why haven't I thought about that?!' thought Becky.
'The people who lived here before practiced voodoo, and they powdered special dust in front of the door-post. Can't imagine why they didn't do the same thing at the front door. I didn't want to tell you this before because I thought you would have got nervous.'
'Noo'¦You think?! Well of course I would have! I am'¦!'
Now the monsters were coming from everywhere'¦ some of them even broke the windows'¦ Becky and Grace started to run outside'¦
'So how did you know?'
'I had a strange feeling'¦ female intuition, I don't know! Then I had a lot of visitors! And guess what? They all were creeps from TV!'
They stopped running.
"What time is it?"
"12."
"By the way, happy birthday!"
"Yeah, it's really happy! Look around'¦we are'¦"
"We are in a cemetery?!"
"On a grave!!!"
And from the grave, a female hand reached out and grabbed Grace's feet.
'Help me!!! Carrie snatched me!'
'Grab my hand! Come on! Yes!' -they did it.
'Let's get out of here!'
'Then let's hurry, because dead people start to surround us.'
After a time, on the streets'¦
'I'm tired. Let's stop, Grace.'
'Ok'¦ now let's see what we have here'¦'
And from the bag, she took out a knife, a cross, a stick'¦
'Onions?! What are you, Buffy, the vampire slayer, or Van Helsing?'
'You can never know'¦ Maybe the next visitor will be Dracula.'
'Right. What time is it?'
'It's still midnight.'
'It's still 12? Just 12? What if your watch isn't working well?'
'And what do you have in mind? You want to ask someone?'
Well, yeah, she wanted to. And she did.
'Hi, could you please tell me what time it is? ' -she asked the man dressed in black, who was singing church songs'¦
'Sure, it's twelve. 'and he turned to Becky smiling.
'Hell! It's the devil from Poltergeist!!! Graaaace!!!
'Run!'
After they were far enough from him'¦
'Don't do that ever again!
'Ok'¦ He's gone.'
'There's an abandoned church'¦ Let's go inside'¦'
'I don't think that's such a great idea'¦ it may be a church, but it's abandoned'¦'
-thought Becky.
They were in. Becky thought they were better off outside. It was a church, but it was creepier than anything she saw before, and now that she looked better, she saw that the statues were full of blood. They were just like in the 'Exorcist''¦ Or probably, those really were the statues from the movie as well as the church.
'I'm going to take a look' 'said Grace leaving her tools behind Becky, but Becky couldn't hear her. She was praying.
'Hold my hand, Grace, let's pray together'¦'
'Becky, there's a big sarcophagus near this entrance'¦' ' yelled Grace from a distance'¦
'Grace'¦? You are'¦ Then'¦ whose hand am I holding? Aaaaaaw'¦!
She turned to her 'partner' '¦ surprise!
'Dracula!!! '
His teeth were already at Becky's neck. But with a turn, she grabbed the stick out from the bag, and with another turn, the knife was already in Dracula's heart.
'Aaaw'¦This means I will never see Dracula in movies ever? Yes!!!'
'It's isn't funny! You could have told me that you will take a walk!'
'I did tell you!'
'Oh, sure!'
'I did!'
'Whatever! Listen! A phone!'
They went in the direction they could hear the phone ringing. In a hall, there it was. They stood both in front of it.
'Don't answer!' 'but she did. As always, Becky did.
'I know what you did last summer...'
'Oh, really? Than please lighten me, 'cause I don't remember! I'm sick of you! Leave us alone!!!'
'Becky, look here!'
'Not now, Grace; I'm busy now. Why'¦?"
'Becky!'
'What?! Oh, my God!'
Sunrise. Birds singing'¦ night'¦ ending.
'You did it.'
'Hello? There's no one there anymore. Grace, where are you? Where am I?'
She was in her bed. And her mom was approaching.
'I was'¦ dreaming?'
'Becky, it's time to get up. Rise and shine!'
'Mom?!'
'Who were you expecting?'
'I don't know; maybe Bigfoot, Frankenstein'¦'
'Don't be silly!'
'What time is it?'
'12.'
'What?!'
'Almost 12; in 13 minutes.'
'Than everything is ok.'
'What day is today?
'Sunday. Today is'¦'
'Grace's birthday.'
After Becky finished to eat, and prepared herself for the party, she and her family left the house. But before they walked out the house on the front door, she observed that one window was a little broken.
'It's nothing'¦' ' she thought.
After a ride with the car, they soon were there.
'Happy birthday! May your days be full with joy, health, and strength, and may your wishes all come true!'
'Thank you.'
Soon, Grace and Becky walked in the kitchen to prepare the goodies to be served.
'What time is it?'
'I don't think my watch works well. It shows 12 all the time.'
'You slept well?'
'Well'¦not really. I had an awful nightmare. I still can't believe it's just a dream'¦ it seemed so real! Why are you asking me?'
'Because I had a nightmare, too'¦ with monsters chasing us'¦'
'Wow! We had the same dream'¦'
'What if it wasn't a dream? What if it was true?'
'Oh, no, don't go there! It was a dream, and that's it. Now let's take these in the room'
They were approaching the door... Grace was closer, Becky after her, and when Grace entered the room, she dropped the platter. Becky entered too, and they could see'¦
'Not monsters again!'
'Will this dream ever end?'
'This isn't a dream, Grace! It's your birthday present and it's real!
